Winston

Introduction

Winston was recorded in Domesday as "Winestuna".

There are records of a brewer operating in the parish in the 17th century, though we have no other details.

A Romano-British settlement was excavated at Barleyhouse Farm in 1947.

In 2010 former MP for the area, John Selwyn Gummer, was created Baron Deben of Winston, reflecting the fact that he has a home in the village.
