About Friston

Dominating the village is a restored post mill which is 55 feet high and probably the tallest in Europe. It was built in 1811 and worked until about 1956.

Friston was once an important centre for the Chartist movement, in 1840 a Boxing day rally attracted over 5,000 supporters.

The village appears on John Speed's 1610 map as "Fri?to".
