Introduction
Hessett was recorded in Domesday as "Eteseca" or "Heteseta". It appears on John Speed's 1610 map as "Hesſet".
The Street contains some fine old cottages. One of the finest late medieval buildings in Suffolk is St Ethelbert's church. Its wall paintings include St Barbara and a playing card; the 6 of diamonds.
