This village is dominated by a large agricultural college. Otley Bottom has earthworks of a Norman castle and a stretch of Roman road. Bartholomew Gosnold of Otley Hall was a pre-eminent early 17th cent. explorer and settler on the east coast of America. Animal impersonator Percy Edwards was also a village resident.
A large post mill stood opposite the southern end of Chapel Road. It had ceased working by 1909 and was demolished during the Great War. The Mount is a Mediaeval Motte & Bailey castle. Many archaeological finds have been made in and around it.
