About Pin Mill

A well known beauty spot and popular sailing centre, clustered around a narrow lane leading from Chelmondiston village to the shore of the river Orwell. Famed for being a haunt of Arthur Ransome, author of "Swallows and Amazons", who lived at Alma Cottage (formerly the Alma Inn).

Sadly (for Pin Mill) the last fatal outbreak of Bubonic plague occurred near here in 1918.
