About Charsfield

Charsfield is a small village on the River Deben, recorded in Domesday variously as "Ceresfella", "Caresfelda", "Cerfella", "Keresfelda" and "Carsfelda". John Speed's 1610 map shows the village as "Charsfelde".

Ronald Blyth's book "Akenfield, portrait of an English village" is based upon this village. It was later made into a film, which brought Peggy Cole to fame.
