The 1904 Woodbridge licensing records show that the Wentworth Castle's license was issued in 1896. Whether this was when it was first licensed or when it got a full (ie not just beer) license isn't clear, though the latter seems more probable. Later licensing records show that on July 22nd 1940, the hotel was closed down "for the duration of the war". Perhaps requisitioned by the military?
The Wentworth Castle Hotel was opened just before (1900) by John Driver, who had previously been at the White Lion…
