19 (or 17) Fore Hamlet

Overview | Gallery | Historical info | Public transport | Map

This was a long standing, low lodging house and beer shop described as "often the resort of tramps, destitutes and other down and outs." In 1841 a newspaper report referred to it as "in so bad condition from imperfect ventilation, uncleanness and the number of persons congregated in [it] that [it was] detrimental to the health of the public." The lodgings comprised two day rooms and six bedrooms and twenty four beds - up to 43 lodgers.

In 1869 it was also listed at 29 Fore Hamlet.

It has since been demolished.
