Beccles Railway Hotel
also traded as as: Railway inn?historical era: late 20th century
opened After 1882, by 1884
closed between 1974 and 1982?
55 Station Rd
The old Railway Hotel now houses a nursery, after some time as a restaurant.
The pub appears on the 1969 OS map but seems to have vanished by the 1982 (and subsequent) sheets. Licensee records exist at least as late as 1974, so the pub presumably closed in between 1974 and 1982.
On the 1st of June 1859 the East Suffolk Railway Line was opened from Ipswich to Lowestoft. Presumably this pub opened at about the same time. Another similarly named pub, the Railway Tavern also stood nearby.
It was recorded in Wellington Street in 1865 (maybe an older name for Station Road?)
The pub is shown (though not named) on this OS town plan of 1884.
