Historical interest
In a case of assault the landlords of both the Railway Tavern and Britania, Thomas Garwood and John Manning respectively, gave evidence with respect to the victims sobriety. The question was asked, "how many half pints old Bury beer to make a man drunk?" It was suggested that 4 halves would do no harm but be beneficial."Bury & Norwich Post, August 8th 1876** (when Ellen & John Manning were the landlords)
