Bury St Edmunds Swan Innhistorical era: Victorian / Edwardian
96 Northgate St
The correct location of the Swan Inn has been confirmed on the 1885 OS map at the Bury Record Office.
The Listed Buildings Register claims that number 11 Northgate Street was the Swan, but the OS map contradicts this. We take the OS map as more likely to be correct, as the register has been known to be wildly inaccurate where pubs are concerned.
The pub has also been reported at 72 Northgate Street in 1830, at Wells Street (1839) and at 85, 91, 92 and 96 Northgate Street.
The pub is shown (though not named) on this old OS map from about the end of the 19th century. larger map
