Important Covid information

If all goes according to plan, the first tranche of pubs (those that are able to serve drinkers outdoors) may be able to reopen on April 12th. Though of course, in a situation like this, nothing is guaranteed. The rest of our pubs may be permitted to reopen from May 17th.

Pubs providing takeaways continue to be listed on this page.

Those known to be planning to reopen as soon as permitted are listed on this page.

Ipswich Red Lion Inn

Ipswich Red Lion Inn

also traded as Little Red Lion

closed 1924

last owner/operator: tollemache

Carr St

grid reference TM 166 445 (approximate location)

The Red Lion is also reported in St Margaret's Street, but was more likely in Carr Street, as the Borough Police licensed premises register shows that a bobby on beat number 2 would walk past the Beehive, the Red Lion, the Lyceum Tavern and the Salutation. (Perhaps it had an entrance either side?)
