The pub is shown, though not named, on this OS town plan from 1884 (larger map).
This was a public house until 1977. My grandparents, William and Kathleen Bangs, were the licensees from 1952 till it closed. Then they retired and the building was never used as a pub again.

Alice Sterry and Mary Ann Edmunds were found guilty of refusing to quit the Fox and Hounds public house, when ordered to do so by the landlord, and also with being disorderly. Mr Charles F Garner proved the case, and the ladies fined 15s each including costs. Ipswich Journal, May 1885**
William Page landlord of the Fox and Hounds, Lowestoft, asked for permission to open his house at 5.30am for the accommodation of fishermen and workmen by supplying tea, coffee and other refreshments. Mr Edwards, one of the magistrates, said that workmen etc. had to pass by the Cocoa Tree Cafe to get to the Fox and Hounds, the application was unanimously refused. Ipswich Journal, Sep 1885**
