Historical interest
The anniversary of the ‘Loyal Wingfield Lodge’, M.U.I.O.O.F.(Order of Odd Fellows), was held at the New market Inn, Lowestoft, when a large number of members of the Order sat down to a substantial dinner admirably served by Brother Browne. Ipswich Journal, Nov 1875**
The landlord of the New Market Inn, Lowestoft, Robert Brown, was charged with assaulting Thomas Tuck, a carpenter. Tuck owed Brown money so when he was walking past the New market Inn, Brown knocked him about tearing his coat and shirt, and vowed to ‘do for him’ if he didn’t pay up. Brown was bound over to keep the peace towards Tuck for a period of three months…
