The Red House was also known as the Blood Tub, where "you could get a pint of strong beer and a thick ear for 2d". The Red House has sometimes erroneously been reported as being in Denston.
The pub is shown on OS maps at least as late as 1904, but has gone by the 1958 sheet, so presumably closed between 1916 (the most recent directory entry found) and 1958. It was demolished about 2000.
