Clare Castlehistorical era: Victorian / Edwardian
opened 1886 or earlier
closed approximately 1896?
The former Castle is now a residential property called Danum House.
Although Clare Book II streets says of Danum House "A conversion from a pub named The Castle built in 1896". It's marked on OS maps at least as early as 1886 but it's only shown up to 1897, not appearing on the 1904 and subsequent sheets. So possibly there's a comma missing from the book and it's actually saying that Danum House was built in 1896 on the site of the pub.
The pub is shown on this old OS map from about 1902 (larger map)
