A Garden House has also been seen reported in Botesdale; we are assuming that it actually meant this pub, since Rickinghall and Botesdale are contiguous and the border is difficult to discern (and may have changed in the past.)
The building dates from the 16th century, with subsequent extensions and alterations.

The Garden House, Rickinghall, Free Public Inn for many years occupied by Henry DEBENHAM and his son. The House comprises 3 parlours, a bar, kitchen, cellar and other conveniences; and attached are a Brew-house, Dairy, Granary, Barn, Stables and other buildings, and about 5 Acres of very superior Land, of which the greater part is land out as a Bowling Green (with a Summer House), Pleasure Grounds, Gardens and Orchards, and planted with the most choice and productive fruit trees and bushes. The Garden House has for nearly a Century, been a place of considerable resort, and the buildings are capable of further improvement at a moderate expense…
