According to a document at Suffolk Record Office, this pub was open about 1750:
[...]anciently sited on area occupied by Framlingham Farmers Ltd. 1974, which in turn occupies site of 18th century building, known as Step and Stair House which became considered unlucky and was eventually pulled down.
A Survey of Suffolk Parish History also tells us that it was sited on the area occupied by Framlingham Farmers.
