Cornhill
It seems probable that this is the same Coffee House that is one of only 24 inns recorded in a 1689 town assessment, though we're not completely sure about that.
Historical interest
Refreshment House (Cornhill): At the Ipswich Petty Sessions held in Sep 1865, Mr John Limmer, who keeps a dining and refreshment house, on the Cornhill, and has a beer license made an application for a spirit license. His main purpose was to sell spirits for outdoor consumption. It was the concern of the Magistrates that given a license he would be bound to sell grog to whoever asked for it. Mr Limmer said he would endeavour to prevent that by asking a very high price for grog or drams. Application rejected. Ipswich Journal, Sep 1865**
In Ipswich Journal, 24 May 1794 there was a reference to Garraways, Coffee house, Change Alley, Cornhill, Ipswich - we are not sure if this is the same business.
