The Crooked Billet is described as standing "close to Seven Arches Bridge"; a predecessor to the present London Road bridge over the western branch of the Gipping. Handford Hall.
It seems to have been roughly where the present Sainsbury's store stands.
Another inn of this name stood in Great Whip Street.
