The Red House is shown on this old OS map from about the end of the 19th century. interactive map
John Doylend tells us that he was born in Park Hill, Oulton in 1945 and remembers the Red House. It always tickled his young sense of humour for a pub of that name to be painted white. However this was necessary because it protruded so far into the road to be a road hazard and those stepping out of the front door were immediately in the carriageway. A cart shed was attached. It was open at least into the 1950s and the last landlord I can remember was named BURWOOD.
Historical interest
In 1937 the pub was listed in Kelly's Directory as one of 220 pubs that were retailing beer that they were brewing.
