May 30, Samford Petty Sessions…Thomas Herbert of Stratford St Mary was charged with stealing 9 live ducks, the property of Alfred BARTON, landlord of the Swan, Stratford, which he claimed he found in the road. John CURTIS, a beer house keeper of Stoke by Nayland bought them from the defendant for 4s & a pint of beer. Thomas was found guilty & sentenced to 1 month's imprisonment.Ipswich Journal, June 3rd 1893**
