Important Covid information

If all goes according to plan, the first tranche of pubs (those that are able to serve drinkers outdoors) may be able to reopen on April 12th. Though of course, in a situation like this, nothing is guaranteed. The rest of our pubs may be permitted to reopen from May 17th.

Pubs providing takeaways continue to be listed on this page.

Those known to be planning to reopen as soon as permitted are listed on this page.

Ipswich Ship Launch

Ipswich Ship Launch

Closed between 1920 and 1970

Key St

grid reference TM 167 440 (approximate location)

Evidently a different pub to the Ship Launch in Ship Launch Road. According to the Borough Police licensed premises Register 1903-1923, a bobby on beat number 8 would walk past the Pilot, then the Ship Launch, the Union Jack, the Dolphin, then the Lock Tavern. As we can place the Pilot, the Dolphin and the Lock Tavern, we can work out roughly which area of the quay this pub must have been on.
