Aldeburgh Pig & Whistlehistorical era: ancient
near Shatterbone Bridge
I have heard from a lady in Aldeburgh and District Local History group who was speaking to a steward at the Moot Hall who had heard from an old boy some time ago that this pub was by the old Rattlebone bridge, that crossed the old River Hundred between Thorpeness and Aldeburgh, before the Ogilvies changed the course of the River Hundred by making the Meare.
(information from Neil Langridge)
Note: documents in Aldeburgh museum list this bridge as the "Shatterbone Bridge" rather than "Rattlebone". It was apparently replaced with the Jubilee Bridge some time between 1889 and 1934.
