Historical interest
When policeman Kelly visited the Forester’s Arms half an hour after midnight he found 15 to 20 people drinking, the landlord, Alfred Hayward said that he had only a few voters in, not as many as the officer implied. He pleaded guilty and the magistrates allowed the charge to be withdrawn as this was his first offence and providing he paid costs of 9s. Ipswich Journal, July 1865**
