Important Covid information

If all goes according to plan, the first tranche of pubs (those that are able to serve drinkers outdoors) may be able to reopen on April 12th. Though of course, in a situation like this, nothing is guaranteed. The rest of our pubs may be permitted to reopen from May 17th.

Pubs providing takeaways continue to be listed on this page.

Those known to be planning to reopen as soon as permitted are listed on this page.

Beccles Black Bull

Beccles Black Bull

Closed before 1840

We know very little about this pub except a reference in a 1779 edition of the Ipswich Journal as follows:

To be sold, the Black Bull in Beccles, together with a compleat set of brewing utensils sufficient to wet 7 comb of malt....Enquire of James Cockrill, the present tenant.Ipswich Journal, 13 Nov 1779***

This may possibly be an alternative name for the Bull, later known as the Angel.
