This pub was also known as Sailors Home before 1876 - two other pubs in the town also had this name at about that time too.

Naomi Broome, went to the Sailor’s Home in St. Peter’s Street, for her daughter was living there with Mrs Carr, the landlady as her servant. An altercation ensued and Mrs Carr put Broome out on to the pavement where she used obscene language. Broome was charged with using obscene language in the street, and not for the first time. When sentenced to pay a fine of 10s 6d including costs or in default 14 days’ imprisonment, she replied,’ I will take the 14 days. She shan’t have a farthing out of me to get fat with, she is too greasy now.’ Ipswich Journal, Sep 1875**
