An ancient smugglers' inn overlooking the River Orwell, that has been extended to the rear to provide additional seating for diners. The patio area to the front has fine views. Refurbished and re-roofed after a fire in 2003, the pub now offers high class cuisine together with gravity dispensed beers.
The building probably dates back to the 14th century.
On the morning of March 26th, the pub suffered a serious fire. Fortunately, nobody was hurt.
Update, March 27th: Adnams, who own the pub, have committed to reopening it as soon as possible. They have announced that they hope to have it open again by xmas.
