Historical interest
Edward Jacob fell asleep in the Eagle Inn, Tonning Street, and when he awoke he found he had lost 41/2d, a handkerchief and his hat. Polly Woolaston, waitress at the tavern, saw Arthur Whaley taking the hat. Whaley denied stealing the articles but admitted he had taken them, this was his 13 appearance in court in 4 years and was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. Ipswich Journal, Aug 1885**
In 1937 the pub was listed in Kelly's Directory as one of 220 pubs that were retailing beer that they were brewing.
