A listed building, this busy local pub sits in the middle of the village and is the centre of local life. The restaurant, serving good home cooked food, is within the public bar area but separated by up-lights from an original wall. There is a separate bar for pool and darts. On bank holidays and special occasions live music is performed. The conker competition is a feature in the autumn. B&B accommodation is available.
Although the pub can appear food-oriented, people just there for drinks are welcomed.
It's deservedly a many-times winner of West Suffolk CAMRA's pub of the year and overall Suffolk pub of the year as well.
The pub was originally built to provide drinks for labourers building the railway line and station.
