Kelly's Directory of 1892 lists William Wootten as a maltster & brewer & victualler at the Rose & Crown.
The Thurlow brewery was situated behind the Rose and Crown (now closed). Brewing had started by 1874 and ceased on the demise of William Wootten in 1910. The brewery and five pubic houses were subsequently sold to F.C. Christmas & Co in 1913 for £4100.
