A notice in the Ipswich Journal** in Jan 1825 states that :

Woodbridge Retail Brewery. To be let on lease, and the plant to be taken on valuation, now in the occupation of Edward Smith, the whole is recently erected in conformity with the late Act of Parliament to supply the public with a wholesome beverage, the same is in full trade, and the returns such as will realize to the person engaging it a certain handsome profit. The copper, mash tub, Cooler, etc., are new and calculated for four barrels.

In 1892 Edward Smith is listed as a brewer.

In 1900 Edward Smith is listed as a brewer and landlord of Coach & Horses pub.

An advert in the Ipswich Journal** in May 1895 states that :

Finest AK Ale, brewed from malt and hops only, may be relied upon when ordered from Edward Smith, Coach and Horses Brewery, Melton; frequent deliveries in Ipswich; price list on application; a trial most respectively solicited, and satisfaction guaranteed; liberal terms to large consumers, schools, and public institutions generally.

Operated until about 1902 or thereabouts, when it was succeeded by Cuthbert Quilter's Melton Brewery Co.
