Spexhall
Introduction
Scattered dwellings cover this parish which has no real centre. The church is just north of Halesworth but the pub is on Stone St (A144) close to the boundary with Ilketshall St Lawrence.
One notable local resident may have been author H Rider Haggard, author of "She", who is said to have owned the hall in 1908. Though there seems to be some doubt about the veracity of this.
Stone street was once part of a Roman road.
The village appears on John Speed's 1610 map as "Spekſall".
