Orford Mariner's Compass
Orford Mariner's Compass

At one point in Richard Cobbold's book "The History of Margaret Catchpole", which is loosely based on Catchpole's life, it's stated that
some of the [smuggling] crew were ashore, and were staying at the Mariner's Compass, at Orford
This may have been an older name for one of the inns we already list in Orford, or perhaps another, as yet un-located, one.
Although Cobbold's story about Catchpole was mostly fantasy, he does seem pretty reliable where geography is concerned, so we can be fairly confident this pub probably did exist.
