Historical interest
Following the 17th Suffolk (Lowestoft) Rifle Volunteers shooting competition held at the rifle butt on the Denes the winners received their prizes: Private Grimmer, a box of cigars presented by Mr Hezeltine, Crown Hotel; Private Hawes, a Christmas Hamper, containing one bottle of each, port, sherry, brandy, whiskey, rum and gin presented by Mr S Howell, Royal Hotel; Corporal Herring, a box of cigars present by Mr Overed, Newcastle Arms; Private Kett, a box of cigars presented by Mr Nelson, Nelson Arms, Tonning Street.
