Foxhall Beer House
Foxhall Beer House
0,0
Closed: 1901
opened 1869 circa
Whilst the landlord information from 1871 to 1901 is fairly substantial, the beer retailer's location can only be deduced from the local censuses and the earliest OS map (1885). Two other pubs are known to be in Foxhall parish - the Waddling Duck which had closed by 1844 and the Shepherd & Dog which is well documented. Only the S&D appears to have traded in the 1850s & 1860s, which is confirmed by the 1851 and 1861 censuses.
There is substantial evidence for an unnamed beer house being in Foxhall parish which traded during the late Victorian era (from about 1869 to 1900).
It may have been located on the same site or very close to the Waddling Duck which reputedly closed in 1844.
Early OS maps of the area clearly indicate the presence of a beer house at that location in 1885.
Historical interest
According to the 1904 Woodbridge licensing record David Brown only held an off-sales beer house license.
(** A David Brown is listed as a farm bailiff in Kelly's Directory in 1892 and also a David Brown is listed as a nearby beer retailer in Kelly's Directory in 1900).
