Historical interest
An inquest was held at the Waterman's Arms, Ipswich, into the death of James Roberts, aged 56, landlord of the house. It was stated that on the evening of Thursday 30th May 1850, Roberts, who had been spitting up blood and complaining of chest pains, went to the privy. He had been there about a minute when his wife heard a noise; she opened the door to find her husband throwing up blood. Assistance was quickly obtained but he never spoke again and soon after expired. The jury returned a verdict 'that death was proceeded by a rupture of one of the large vessels of the heart.'Ipswich Journal, June 1850**
