Important Covid information

If all goes according to plan, the first tranche of pubs (those that are able to serve drinkers outdoors) may be able to reopen on April 12th. Though of course, in a situation like this, nothing is guaranteed. The rest of our pubs may be permitted to reopen from May 17th.

Pubs providing takeaways continue to be listed on this page.

Those known to be planning to reopen as soon as permitted are listed on this page.

Elveden Albemarle Arms

Elveden Albemarle Arms

Closed between 1840 and 1920

grid reference TL 815 794 (approximate location)

The 1871 census locates the pub adjacent to the school on the village side. (Newmarket Road is on the other side of the school.) There is a building immediately next to the school, but this is architecturally identical to the school so is obviously part of it (maybe the schoolmaster's house?)

The 1881 to 1911 censuses list an unnamed pub in Brandon Road with a continuity of landladies. (Could this be the same pub as the Elveden Inn?)
