The Ship was built in the 17th century as three cottages. At some unknown later date, an external staircase was added, leading to upstairs drinking rooms which were used by local sheep farmers. Ship is probably a corruption of "sheep" (due to the way sheep is pronounced in Suffolk dialect).
It's now used as a shop (Ship Stores) and guesthouse.
