The Barley Mow stood roughly where the Anne Summers shop now stands, it was demolished to make way for the current building.
It's listed in St Matthews Street, High Street and in 1855 as being in "Barley Mow Lane".
Thomas Hooper was the Licensed Victualler around the 1870s. He is entered with his family at this address on the 1871 census, when he was aged about 50.

At the Ipswich Petty Sessions held in May 1885 the license for the Barley Mow, Westgate Street, was transferred from Samuel D Lennard to William Kent. Ipswich Journal, May 1885**
Samuel Daniel Lennard, of no occupation, late of the barley Mow, Westgate Street, Ipswich, a public house manager was adjudged bankrupt in March 1885 with unsecured debts of £266 6s 11d, his statement at the time showed he had goods to the value of £7 16s. Ipswich Journal, July 1885**
