George Chandler, who keeps the Eclipse beerhouse, Tacket Street, admitted keeping his house open during prohibited hours at 2.40am on a Monday morning, but said that the men involved were nightmen. The Magistrates dismissed the case. Ipswich Journal, May 1870**

A champion racehorse of same name, born during a full eclipse in 1764, was reputedly unbeaten during its entire career and without ever being spurred or whipped, and also ensipred the popular phrase at the time "Eclipse first and the rest nowhere". See here.
