Historical interest
John Federick Roper, 23, a pig dealer called at the beerhouse of William Roper in Combs for 3/4 hour before leaving. A little later he was found by the road and appeared to be quite stupid, it appeared that he had suffered a fracture of the skull. The subsequent inquest recorded he had "died from an accident".Bury & Norwich Post, December 28th 1869** (when William Roper was the landlord of a local beer house)
Originally only licensed as a beerhouse, the pub only got a full license on January 3rd, 1962 according to the Stow licensing records.
It was only open by arrangement e.g. first Tuesday of each month for busking sessions, or by prior appointment during its last year or two - now closed.
