Israel Lambert, a beer house keeper, was charged by Inspector Fisher with an offence against the beer house license, by allowing persons to raffle for money in his house, the Castle Brewery. Fined 20s and costs of 7s 6d.Ipswich Journal, Dec 1865**
Originally only licensed as a beer house, the Castle did not get a full trade licence until 1 February 1957.
According to a document at the Suffolk Record Office, the Swan & Castle name was in use in 1912; it isn't clear when the name change occurred.

Castle brewery closed 1903.
