A report in the Ipswich Journal. June 3rd 1837*** stated that Robert Koipe COBBOLD of the Eye Brewery was retiring from business & was looking to sell various Inns & Public Houses including the King's Head, Mendlesham.
William Durrant had kept the Kings Head at Mendlesham for 16 years and had not been the worse for drink during the last 8 years. He was arrested and charged with being drunk and disorderly upon the highway. A witness saw Durrant strike a young lad called Keeble without the least provocation, "young Keeble was very badly used"…
