In 1937 the pub was listed in Kelly's Directory as one of 220 pubs that were retailing beer that they were brewing.
In Feb 2011 it was named one of the top ten most vegetarian-friendly pubs in the country by animal rights group PETA. The pub, which was set up by Jan Wise just over three years earlier, offers a variety of meat-free options including curries, stews and pasta dishes.
