The pub is shown on this old OS map from about 1902 (interactive map)
Shortly after it closed, we were told by a village resident that the person who had purchased the pub was determined to live in it without reopening it, even if he couldn't get planning permission for change of use. He has since moved out.
The legal status is unknown, but it has long been residential and has been renamed Solstice House.
On the village outskirts, close to the historic coppiced woodland of the Suffolk Wildlife Trust stands this beautifully restored Victorian free house and country restaurant. The comfortable and attractive interior was fronted by a glazed dining area. The separate public bar had a woodblock floor, wood burning stove and pine seating.
The restaurant offered pub food plus à la carte English. They welcomed walkers and cyclists, welcomed dogs. Open mike nights once a month, Bingo on Sundays twice a month and quiz nights on a Sunday twice a month. Service throughout was excellent.
In winter months they had open fires in the Snug and the Lounge. There was a large beer garden with petanque (boules) pitch.
Owner/operator: Greene King
Tastefully refurbished to retain separate bar, lounge and dining areas. Excellent menu and Abbot direct from the cellar. Gardens include bird aviary and play area with wendy house.
