Historical interest
The pub is shown on this old OS map from about 1903 (interactive map)
The pub may sometimes be listed historically as being in Leiston.
An alehouse is recorded in Sizewell as early as 1540, though the current pub building dates from somewhat later. The alehouse was closed down during the Commonwealth and turned into a blacksmith's, which explains how the name came about when it reopened after the Restoration.
The license for the Vulcan Arms was transferred from Edward Merrells to Charles Robert Upson, at the Saxmundham Petty sessions held in December 1885.Ipswich Journal, Dec 1885**
The pub was licensed as the Vulcan's Arms in 1974.
Adnams brewery took on the pub at the start of the 20th century.
