This was a lively and friendly establishment with two bars and separate restaurant. It had six en-suite rooms (b&b) and a safe garden with children's play area.
Although Punch Taverns originally wanted to demolish the pub to redevelop it, permission was refused. It has since been converted into a Co-Op; one of many pubs destroyed by that organisation.
The pub dates back to the 18th century or earlier. In 1899 it was sold, along with its brewery for £92-5-5.
