It was rebuilt as a large open plan bar and restaurant in the 1980s after a fire destroyed the original building.
The old Shepherd and Dog was renamed Miller & Carter Steakhouse in March 2016, erasing over 165 years of pub history. The restaurant still retains a small bar and drinking area where it isn't necessary to eat.

Eliza Akins, 15, servant to Samuel Levitt, landlord of the Shepherd and Dog, Foxhall was charged in November 1860 with stealing copper and other coins from the drawer of the pub. Levitt had often missed coins from his drawer and therefore searched her room, finding coins, to the value of 4s 6d, between her mattress and bed. She pleaded guilty and received six weeks hard labour…
